It’s a new year, another chance to start fresh and make the next twelve months better than the last.  One of the best ways to kick-start your new and improved year is to start working on a new and healthier you.

Starting the Right Way

Unlike what most people assume weight loss does not start in the gym.  Most experts agree that depending on body type and metabolism, between 70% and 80% of your weight depends on your diet. Therefore, Weight loss starts with ones eating habits.

Gradual Changes

The body is similar to an elastic band; if you stretch it wide very quickly and let go, it snaps right back to the way it was.  If you slowly stretch it little by little, eventually it will not return to its original shape.  If you make quick and sudden changes, the body resists.  Gradual changes are key to achieving long-lasting results.

Diet

Let’s start this new year with drinking more water and eliminating surgery drinks. Nothing sounds better than a fresh cucumber mint water that is completely guilt free. Start eating more vegetables and keep in mind you must eat the rainbow colors. Don’t stick to your safe zone (Carrots and celery sticks) explore a little.

Fitness

  1. Cardio and strength training are both important. Find a good balance of both in your daily workouts.
  2. Make it a routine.  Have a set time every day.
  3. Find a workout partner.
